Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 9, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how PhotoEditor ("the App") handles information when you use its photo editing features. In this policy, "we," "us," and "our" refer to the developer of PhotoEditor.
1. Information We Handle
The App processes photos you select or capture, along with the edits you create, such as adjustments, drawings, text, and privacy covers. It stores working copies of images, project details, thumbnails, and saved editing presets on your device so that you can continue editing later.
Photo editing takes place on your device. The App does not upload your photos or editable projects to us. You do not need to create an account to use the App.
If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and any information or attachments you choose to include. We use this information to respond to your message and handle your request.
2. How Information Is Used
The App uses your images and editing information to display and edit photos, save and reopen projects, apply saved presets, and create exports at your request.
When you use the privacy scanning feature, the App detects face and text regions on your device to help you cover sensitive details. Region locations are saved within the local project so that covers remain editable.
3. Faces in Photos and Face Data
What is processed: Photos you select or capture may contain faces. When you choose "Scan faces & text," the App analyzes the current image on your device and records rectangular face locations and the associated cover settings. These locations describe where faces appear in the image; they are not identity records.
Purpose and limits: Face detection is used only to help you locate and cover faces while editing. The App does not recognize or verify a person's identity, compare faces across photos, create facial templates or biometric profiles, or infer personal characteristics from faces. Photos and detected face locations are not used to train machine learning models.
Storage and transmission: The working source image, detected face locations, and cover settings are saved in the local editable project so that you can reopen and adjust your edits. The App does not upload these images or face data to us. Local projects are marked as excluded from device cloud backup.
Retention and deletion: Face-related project data is retained for as long as the project remains on your device. To delete it, touch and hold the project's card in Studio and choose "Delete project." This removes the project's saved source image, detected face locations, cover settings, and thumbnail. Deleting the App also removes its local app data; offloading may preserve it. Images already saved or shared, and temporary export files, are handled separately as described below.
Your control: You can edit photos without running the face scan. Detected covers remain editable, and covering a face does not erase it from the underlying source image stored in the project. Exported images flatten enabled covers into the image pixels and do not include editable face-location records. Detection may miss faces, and uncovered faces remain visible in exports, so review the result before saving or sharing.
4. Photo and Camera Permissions
- Photo selection: The system photo picker lets you choose which image to import.
- Camera: Camera access is requested when you choose to take a photo for editing.
- Saving to Photos: Permission to add photos is requested when you choose to save an exported image to your photo library.
You can change camera and photo permissions in your device's Settings. Denying or revoking permission may prevent the related feature from working.
5. Storage and Retention
Projects and presets are stored in the App's local storage, which the App marks as excluded from device cloud backup. Saved projects remain until you delete them or delete the App. Presets remain until you remove them or delete the App.
Exporting also creates image files in the App's temporary storage. These files may remain until the operating system clears them or you delete the App. Deleting a project does not necessarily remove these temporary exports.
We retain support correspondence only for as long as reasonably needed to handle your request and meet applicable legal obligations.
6. Exporting and Sharing
You control when to save or share an exported image. The App creates a new image file without copying the source photo's GPS, EXIF, or IPTC metadata. Information visible in the image itself remains unless you remove or cover it.
When you choose to share, the App passes the exported image to the destination you select using the system share sheet. Copies you save or share remain separate from your editable project.
7. Your Choices and Deletion
You can delete individual projects from the project library and remove saved presets within the App. Deleting a project removes its locally saved source image, edit information, and thumbnail. Deleting the App removes its local app data; offloading the App may preserve that data.
Deleting a project or the App does not delete images already saved to your photo library or copies you have shared. Manage those copies separately in their respective locations.
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or request deletion of personal information we hold, or to object to or restrict certain uses. Contact us to make a request about support correspondence or other information you have provided to us. We cannot remotely access or delete projects stored only on your device.
8. Security
The App uses its device-provided application storage to keep local project data. Protect your device with a passcode and keep its software updated. No method of storage or communication can guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the App or our information practices. We will publish the revised policy on this page and update the date above. Where required, we will provide additional notice of material changes.
